耕作できる土？Soil, suitable for cultivation?

土が本当に固く掘るのが大変 なので、はたしてこれで野菜を育てられるのだろうかと疑問に思いました。
そこで、近所の庭師さんのところへ行き、土を柔らかくする方法や新たに土を追加した方がいいのかなどを聞きに行きました。庭師さんは、親切にも一度ショベルカーで掘って確かめてみましょうか、と言って下さりました。

数日後、庭師さんは地面を掘りに来てくださり、野菜を育てるには石が多くて土が固すぎるので無理で、新たに上に土を追加した方がいいと仰りました。
やっぱり…と思い、土を購入したいので準備してほしいとお願いしました。土はいつも売られている訳ではなく、特に安く買いたい場合には数か月みておいた方がいいとのことで、まあ急がないので待つことにしました。

As the ground was really hard and difficult to dig , we were wondering if we can grow vegetables with this soil.
We decided to go ask a neighbor gardener how to make the soil softer and if we should add some soils on the ground for cultivation. He kindly offered to dig the ground with a backhoe to confirm whether the land is suitable for cultivation.

Several day later, he came to dig the ground and concluded that the land is too hard with many stones to grow vegetables, and it should be better to add soils on the ground.
We totally agreed and asked him to prepare soils, which he said it could take a few month to prepare as they are not always being sold, especially when we want to buy them with a cheaper price. We didn’t have to rush and told him we would wait for the time when they become available.
